For centuries, The House of Mirs from India, has nurtured a dream—one that traces back to the roots of the Kashmiri handicraft industry, possibly as early as the 14th century. A pivotal moment in their journey came in 1885, when their forefather, Mr. Baqir Mir, entered the world of Kashmiri craftsmanship. While he likely never traveled beyond Kashmir to seek new markets, it was his son, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Mir, who took the bold step in the 20th century, traveling to Calcutta (now Kolkata) to promote Kashmiri handicrafts during an era when travel was far from easy. Meanwhile, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad’s younger brother, Mr. M. Qasim Mir, remained in Srinagar, overseeing both the family’s production and its joint household.
In the years that followed, Mr. M. Jaffar, the son of Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Mir, took the family’s dream to new heights. Starting around 1949, he traveled extensively across India, reaching out to Maharajas, ministers, bureaucrats, and corporate elites, showcasing the finest Kashmiri craftsmanship. His primary destinations were Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi, where he cultivated relationships that lasted until the late 1980s. Today, Mr. Jaffar's son and grandsons continue this legacy, further expanding their vision.
At the heart of The House of Mirs lies a simple yet profound mission: to share Kashmir's extraordinary craftsmanship with the world. Their commitment to this heritage has helped them build a brand that resonates globally, while maintaining the highest standards of quality. They also remain adaptable, continuously evolving to stay ahead of emerging trends and markets.
It is their hope that you will appreciate the exceptional beauty and craftsmanship in their collection as much as they take pride in bringing it to you. By supporting their work, you are also helping to sustain the dreams of the artisans and craftspeople who bring these creations to life.
