Bio:
The project VITAL has its origin in this little country's determination not to lose its identity. Our first activity has consisted in saving the coats of the sheep from being destroyed, when the animals are sheared each spring. The people who inhabit the mountain have always used this natural fibre to dress themselves, for protection against the cold, and to make indispensable material for a good mattress.
The relation of Vital with ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples comes from the catalan culture. The catalan culture has been the main culture in the east part of the Pyrenees during centuries and has been oppressed by the spanish and french states. VITAL wants to recover the folk art related to the tradition of the shepherds. We are exploring the art of shepherds from the Andes, but also from the Pyrenees in Europe. We are introducing through folk art, a new form of collaboration between different cultures and a space without borders where we explore what really connects us. We would like to convey common values and aesthetics that identify us and, at the same time, make clear the identity of each community.
